cookie exchange 2018

Lauren Ellington December 9, 2018

i wasn’t going to be able to make the annual cookie swap home in florida (boo) so i decided to host one of my own up north.

we snacked on a charcuterie platter and crudites, ham and cheese puffs, brie and pomegranate aril phyllo cups, and of course - cookies.

recipes i used this year were:
linzer cookies (the original recipe called for mixing a little liquor in with the jam, but i kept them n/a in case the platters made their way into homes with kiddos.)
royally iced sugar and gingerbread cookies
chocolate dipped shortbread snowflakes
and chocolate peppermint bark

it was a super fun way to relax and enjoy the season with lots of holiday yummies!

wreath workshop

Lauren Ellington December 2, 2018

sometime in october i came across a facebook event for a wreath workshop. in a fit of pre-christmas anticipation and joy i signed up, and then in the month that intervened questioned that decision a few times over. i started calculating how many target wreaths i could have purchased for the price of this one workshop, and what if my one wreath came out super fugly?! i’ve never made a wreath before, so that was an absolute possibility.

thankfully this turned into one of the cutest days ever and i can’t wait to sign up next year! hosted as a joint effort by ciderpress lane and willow and mabel garden co, the ladies transformed a private workshop into a warm, winter wonderland for us to assemble our wreaths in. the greenery was freshly gathered locally, and they gifted us with homemade pine sugar scrub (and a recipe to make a few batches ourselves!) and provided mulled wine and cider. it was the sweetest most fun, and peaceful way to kick off the holiday season and i was eternally grateful for their help and expertise in putting together my wreath.

i did learn for next year to hold the thing up every once in a while - it’s a little tricksy to determine if the bunches you are adding are even on all sides when the wreath is laying flat.
